Kehinde Wiley Printed Tee

These all over print, unisex t-shirts feature imagery directly pulled from Kehinde Wiley’s paintings, A Portrait of a Young Gentleman (Blue Multi) and Death of St. Joseph (Cream Multi).  Luxuriously crafted with comfort and durability in mind, this t-shirt is made from soft, ring-spun poly.  Cut and sewn in LA.

Wiley’s painting A Portrait of a Young Gentleman (2021) was created as a contemporary response to Thomas Gainsborough's iconic Blue Boy portrait (1770). His painting reimagines Gainsborough's young white subject as a Black, Senegalese surfer and replaces the original moody wooded landscape with a vibrant floral backdrop which decorates the entire surface of the shirt.

Wiley’s painting Death of St. Joseph (2017) derives its ideation from 18^thCentury classical biblical portraiture and the enigmatic art history of St. Joseph, boldly reimagined for a contemporary audience.  The garment’s visionary portrait is vibrantly displayed on the back and its stylized and imaginative design of lush multi-colored flowers, greenery and a powerful yet playful rooster decorate the entire surface of the shirt.
